The Caribou Curling Club houses a four sheet curling rink. The club has hosted many special events including the Nation Legion Curling Championship and provincial Under 17 Junior Curling championship. The winter carnival takes place for one week every winter, buttons can be purchased to attend events and win prizes. Events offered during the carnival include: the opening parade, bake sale, free skiing, skating, swimming and movies, outdoor activities, community meals and contests and more! The Stephenville Dome is the home to Stephenville Minor Hockey, Minor Broomball, the Stephenville Figure Skating Club, the Stephenville high school Spartans and Bay St. George Junior Jets hockey teams. This facility includes an Olympic size ice surface, fully serviced cafeteria, walking track and multi-purpose rooms. Throughout the winter season the dome hosts public skates and the walking track is open to the public throughout the year. The Whaleback Ski Park is located 4 km from Stephenville. Whaleback Nordic Ski Club provides cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to all ages and levels on their 21 Km groomed trails and 2.5km night trail (Monday – Friday). Midway on the trail system is a cozy warm up cabin, “Don’s Den”. The trails are known to be among the best trail networks in the country, receiving accolades from visitors across Canada, the United States and Europe. Ski equipment and snowshoes are available for rental as well as daily trail passes. Whaleback Nordic offers junior ski development programs for children as well as instruction for adults. Whaleback Nordic serves its members and welcomes visitors 7 days a week at its comfortable ski chalet during the ski season. The Bay St. George Snowmobile Association gives access to view the beautiful Newfoundland scenery of the Lewis Hills, Fox Island, the Blue hills and much more.
