The dataset was updated to include Everglades National Park's 2010 - 2016 compilation of seagrass data for Florida Bay. This dataset replaces the 2010 distribution.
FWRI staff added four attributes to each data set: SEAGRASS - indicates "continuous" or "discontinuous". If a seagrass data set only indicated presence/absence this attribute defaulted to discontinuous. SOURCEDATE - year(s) of photography. Also indicates if date is unknown or if the polygon was not interpreted from photography. METADATA - the information in this field will be populated with a link to the metadata for the source data set that the polygon came from once the source metadata is online. Currently it is the source data set name used as a placeholder. DESCRIPT - standardized name field for labeling maps. Values include "Continuous Seagrass", or "Discontinuous Seagrass". Staff used the most recent information for an area. Staff determined the most recent information by creating footprints of all source polygons, minus any large land polygons and uninterpreted areas. Staff used these footprints with the ArcGIS Toolbox command "erase" to eliminate areas of overlap from older source data sets. In some areas the exclusion of shoreline resulted in sliver polygons due to different studies using different shorelines. Staff manually deleted these slivers after the "erase", defaulting to the more recent shoreline coverage. Once all the data were properly "erased", staff loaded all of the data into a single geodatabase feature class. Running a topology resulted in no overlaps. If an area was uninterpreted within a more recent study, but interpreted in an older study, then the older study was used. Sliver polygons less than one square meter were deleted. Any additional slivers are either due to preserving the "Source" attribute or they were present in the original source data sets.
The data set was updated to include the 2009 seagrass data from SJRWMD.
The data set was updated to include the 2010 seagrass from SWFWMD
Where necessary, FWRI projected new datasets to NAD_1983_2011_Florida_GDL_Albers before processing according to the 2010 procedure. The dataset was updated to include 2007 Naples Bay seagrass data from the Conservancy of SW FL; 2010 Florida Bay seagrass data from Avineon, Inc.; 2010 Florida Panhandle data, 2014 Estero Bay, and 2016 Southwest Florida data from Photo Science, Inc. (now Quantum Spatial); 2011 data for the Caloosahatchee, Loxahatchee and St. Lucie Rivers from Dial Cordy & Associates; 2014 Rookery Bay data from Scheda Ecological Associates, Inc.; 2011 data for the Gulf Islands National Seashore from the U.S. National Park Service; 2015 data for the Indian River Lagoon from the St. Johns Water Management District; 2016 data for the Springs Coast from the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Avineon, Inc., and 2013 data for Lake Worth Lagoon from Palm Beach County Environmental Management. Additional data sets from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Fish and Wildlife Research Institute were also added including 2007 data for Choctawhatchee Bay, and 2004 - 2015 seagrass data from the Unified Florida Reef Tract Map, Version 2.
The data set was updated to include SJRWMD's 2017 seagrass data.
Staff reclassified all seagrass features in the Springs Coast 2016 dataset with FLUCCS code 9111 "Sparse-Medium Seagrass" as "Continuous" to match the classification used in the updated FWC Seagrass Integrated Mapping and Monitoring Program (SIMM) Mapping and Monitoring Report No. 3. This reclassified dataset replaces the previous version in the final compilation.
The dataset was updated to include seagrass data from SWFWMD for St. Joseph Sound, Clearwater Harbor, Tamapa Bay, Sarasota Bay, Lemon Bay, and Charlotte Harbor as of January 2018. This data replaces the previous 2016 dataset.
The dataset was updated to include SJRWMD's 2019 seagrass data for Indian River Lagoon.
The datasets was updated to add 2018 seagrass data for Lake Worth Lagoon from Palm Beach County and 2020 data for SouthwestFlorida from the Southwest Florida Water MAnagmeent District (SWFWMD).
The dataset was updated to include SWFWMD's 2020 seagrass data for the Springs Coast.
The dataset was updated to include SJRWMD's 2021 seagrass data for the Indian River Lagoon.
