Description:
Abstract: Points depict the locations of the Washington State Department of Transportation's (WSDOT) sites. GPS data was collected for both state-owned and leased facilities used by the WSDOT.Facility Type & Description - Area Maintenance FacilityPrimary maintenance facility centrally located to serve a designated Area within a Region. Typically includes auto mechanic shop, fuel service, and storage for vehicles and consumable inventory (e.g., gravel, sand, salt, paint).
Purpose: Used as a reference layer for geographic information systems at the Washington State Department of Transportation. These data sets enable users to evaluate existing WSDOT sites and buildings with regards to other agency data sets used for planning.
Supplemental Information: This data is a work in progress. Only buildings with GPS data are shown. Data is to be used for planning purposes. Surplused sites and buildings are excluded. Building Areas are in square feet. Building areas exclude room categories for Roof and Vertical Penetration (stairways and elevators).

Process Description: 
Data is collected as part of an on-going field verification process of all sites and buildings used by WSDOT. One set of x, y coordinates are collected for each location using a handheld GPS device. For sites with a definitive boundary and entrance, coordinates are acquired at the main entrance. For sites without a definitive boundary or other facilities, coordinates are collected at the approximate centroid of the property. Data is retained in the WSDOT Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) System. All site data including coordinates are retained in the Sites table. Building and room area data are retained in separate tables, which are related to the site table. Queries and views are used to capture and collate pertinent data from these tables for the GIS Workbench. Areas by type for each building are a total calculation based on the cataloguing of individual rooms within each building.
